The Padres reached a contract agreement with left-handed starting pitcher Clayton Richard during the week of Jan. 23-27, reducing their number of possible arbitration cases to one.
The Padres entered the process with a big-league-leading 11 arbitration eligible cases. Nine reached 2012 agreements with the Padres in the hours (minutes) before the Jan. 17 deadline to exchange arbitration numbers.
Richard's signing leaves right-handed starting pitcher Dustin Moseley as the lone Padre still scheduled for an arbitration hearing next month. Moseley is seeking $2.55 million from the Padres while the Padres are offering $1.5 million.
The 28-year-old Richard will make $2,705,000 this season.
